Ginger, commissioned work for Karma Sushi Bar Grill

To honor sushi’s signature flavors, Karma Sushi Bar Grill’s owner Steven Scully commissioned me to create four stitched textile collages especially for Karma’s new space, three pieces to celebrate the pungent, sharp, and distinctive taste of wasabi, and one piece about the peppery, pungent flavor of ginger. Ginger is pictured, left.

I hand-dyed cotton and silk fabrics to augment my collection of vintage, reclaimed, and commercial fabrics, then collaged and layered the materials. Then I drew with thread and machine stitching over the surface of each artwork.
