John Lewis

This piece was one of nine created for my exhibit Regarding Privilege, on display from September 23rd to November 2nd, 2023.

John Lewis was an American politician and civil rights activist

February 21, 1940 – July 17, 2020

The quote is from a tweet Lewis posted on June 27, 2018 at 8:15 am. People know part of this quote from John Lewis – “good trouble, necessary trouble”, but I was curious about the origin of the quote and wanted to see and present it in context.

Please contact me if you’re interested in acquiring this piece for your collection.

The text of this piece reads:

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year; it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.
